Miss Fiya Performs at Container Village in West Philadelphia

On August 1, 2026, I brought my original music and poetry to Container Village in West Philadelphia for the Block Party Family Reunion, hosted by PHAM Inc. Music.

The event brought together independent artists from across the East Coast, with performers traveling from New York City, Rhode Island, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and surrounding areas. Although we arrived from different places with different stories, music gave us a common language for the day.

The most meaningful part of the experience was not simply standing onstage. It was realizing that the audience was willing to meet me there.

When the Audience Became Part of the Performance

During my set, I performed an original call-and-response poem. I offered my words to the crowd, and they sent them back with energy.

For those few minutes, the microphone felt less like a spotlight and more like a bridge. The audience was not passively watching or waiting for the next act. They were listening, responding, and helping the moment come alive.

As an artist, you sometimes step onstage without knowing what the room will give you. You prepare your work, gather your courage, and trust that something will connect. Hearing the crowd respond felt refreshing and affirming. It reminded me that a performance does not have to be perfect to be powerful. It needs presence, honesty, and people willing to participate.

Original Music and a Supportive West Philadelphia Crowd

This Miss Fiya live performance in West Philadelphia gave me another opportunity to share original work with a new audience.

Original music asks people to enter a world they have never visited before. There is no familiar chorus to carry the moment and no memory attached to the song yet. The artist has to create that connection in real time.

That is what made the audience’s support meaningful. They allowed themselves to experience something new, and they responded with openness.

Artists Connecting Across the East Coast

Seeing artists gather in West Philadelphia from New York City, Rhode Island, Baltimore, and other East Coast communities was another reminder of how far music can travel.

Each performer brought something different to the stage, but we were connected by the courage it takes to share original work in front of strangers. Events like the Block Party Family Reunion give independent artists an opportunity to cross paths, discover one another’s work, and reach audiences beyond their own cities.

The Power of Community Through Live Music

Community is not created simply because people gather in the same place. It happens when people choose to exchange energy, listen to one another, and become part of something together.

The call-and-response reminded me why live performance still matters. A recording can travel across the world, but a live moment belongs to the people who were present. We created something that could not be repeated in exactly the same way.

I arrived with my music and poetry. The audience brought their voices. Somewhere between the stage and the crowd, those separate pieces became a shared experience.

That is the power of community.
